The construction of the hi-tech market at Nava Nagar is nearing completion and is likely to open next month.
The vendors, who have been facing many problems for decades without a well-equipped and well-organized market, are a happy lot now. In the absence of a systematic market, the farmers and vendors have been selling vegetables, fruits and flowers on the streets.
The market is being constructed at a cost of Rs 1.5 crore by the Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC). Nava Nagar is located between Dharwad and Hubballi city, about 10 kms from the city centre. The new market comes under ward no. 27 of Nava Nagar. The residents of Ishwar Nagar, Amaragol, Sutagatti, Bairidevarkoppa and nearby areas come to Nava Nagar for shopping.

The old market was built in 1995. With time, the market turned into a bad shape. Ramesh Noolvi, Assistant Commissioner of Zone 4 told that the market will be of big help to the residents of Nava Nagar and nearby areas. On the instructions of the elected representatives, the market is being developed with the HDMC grant, MLA fund and corporator’s ward fund, the official said.
The built-up area of the market is around one acre. Space has been allotted for parking of vehicles. We have divided vendors into three categories, full-time, part-time and mobile vendors. About 35 full-time vendors will be allotted space in the main building. Space will also be provided for part-time vendors, including farmers, to sell vegetables and fruits, the official said.
Noolvi said the high-tech facilities at the market will help vendors sell vegetables, fruits and flowers without any problem in all weather conditions. The commuters and pedestrians were getting  annoyed by the traffic around Nava Nagar market, he said.
