For the first time, unmarried men of Katenahalli village took part in Poorna Kumbha celebration to get marriage proposals.
The youths performed the ritual to please Dyamavva Devi. According to villagers, 600 families are staying at Katenahalli and they have been facing lot of hardships. More than eight unmarried youths from the village, aged between 18 and 26, have died in several accidents within a week in the last month. Another worry for villagers is youths are not getting suitable alliances for marriage. They believe that the goddess has been angry with them and village heads approached a priest of Harihar city to solve the issues.
Following the priest’s advice, the villagers decided to perform Poorna Kumbha and more than 100 youths participated. Ramanna Kurtakoti, a villager said that at least eight unmarried youths have lost their life within a week in the village, and all these families have faced hardships after these incidents. We wanted to come out of these sobby incidents and so we held Poorna Khumba for goddess. We believe in our village goddess and she will protect us, he shared.

Youths of the village started the procession from the entrance of the village carrying Kumbhas on their shoulders. The bhajans, dollu and drums added beauty to the procession.   We did all the rituals for the welfare of the youths. We must protect them from evil powers, asserted Basappa Kammar, a villager.
He further noted that, normally, women participate in the Kumbha procession, but for the first time, youths in our village carried out Kumbhas on their shoulders during the procession. Of course, some people will argue all these rituals are superstitious, but it’s what we believe, Basappa asserted.
