Mangaluru police have issued notices to a group of young individuals for raising religious flags while climbing onto the statue of freedom fighter Rani Abbakka in Ullal, as reported on Tuesday. On September 28, during the Eid Milad procession, these youths climbed the statue at the Veera Rani Abbakka Circle in Ullal, brandishing green flags. A video of the incident went viral on social media, sparking outrage. Responding to the severity of the situation, the Ullal police have obtained video evidence and identified the individuals involved, sending them official notices to cooperate with the ongoing investigation. It’s worth noting that a considerable number of young people ascended the statue during the procession, and their behavior was deemed disrespectful. They obstructed the road and created a disturbance by incessant honking, causing inconvenience to the public, according to the police. Given that Mangaluru is a city with communal sensitivities, the police acted swiftly, identifying the individuals from various districts in Dakshina Kannada, including Manjanadi, Madaka, Bantwal, Beltangady, Deralakatte, Konaje, and Ullal. In response to the stone-pelting incident during the Eid Milad procession, curfew orders have been imposed in Shivamogga City, leading to the arrest of over 40 individuals in connection with the incident.
