Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has ignited controversy by penning a letter requesting the dismissal of the case related to the April 2022 riots in Hubli. BJP leaders have voiced their opposition to the move by the Congress leader, raising questions about whether the Congress government is engaging in Muslim appeasement in the lead-up to the Lok Sabha elections. DK Shivakumar has written a letter to the Home Department, urging them to drop the longstanding Hubli riots case. The Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) has instructed the Hubli Dharwad Police Commissioner to provide information about the case based on DK Shivakumar’s letter. A written opinion on withdrawing the case was sought, and instructions were given to provide a comprehensive case report by September 30. The FIR, charge sheet, and witness statements have been submitted. In response, Hubli Dharwad Police Commissioner Renuka Sukumar stated that certain details cannot be publicly disclosed. She mentioned that the department has provided requested information as needed and would respond to official inquiries but would not reveal all information openly.
