Civil contractors in Hubli have halted work and launched a protest, demanding the elimination of the illegal cleaning outsourcing system employed by the Dharwad Municipal Corporation. Led by the Dharwad District SC ST Civil Workers and Employees Union, contract civil workers are staging an indefinite protest. They are expressing their frustration with the Hubli Dharwad Municipal Corporation and have written a letter to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah urging him to address their demands. In 2017, the state government had abolished the contract system and mandated direct recruitment and salary payments. However, this reform has not been implemented in the Hu-Dha Metropolitan Corporation. Civic workers are calling for the direct payment of wages to 799 contract civic workers within the corporation and the filling of 340 vacant civil servant positions through direct recruitment.
