A shocking incident of gang rape has come to light during the investigation of a dacoity case in Belagavi district, Karnataka. Five men were arrested in connection with the dacoity, and they confessed to the gang rape during their interrogation. Upon receiving this confession, the police initiated an investigation into the gang rape case and contacted the victim, who then filed a formal complaint. The accused have been identified as Ramesh Khilari from Benachimaradi village, Durgappa Vaddar, Yallappa Gisnigavvagol, Krishna Pujari, and Ramasidda Tapsi. The main accused in the gang rape case, Basavaraja Khilari, is currently on the run and is being sought by the police. Basavaraja Khilari was acquainted with the victim. The incident occurred within the jurisdiction of Gokak police station on September 5. The victim had come to Gokak town from her village for some business. She met a person at the bus station who was known to her family. Additionally, she encountered the accused Basavaraja Khilari, who was familiar with her family, at the bus station. Basavaraja Khilari took them to his house in Aditya Nagar. Once at his house, Basavaraja Khilari provided them with tea and informed his fellow gang members to join him. The gang consisted of five members, including Basavaraja Khilari, who proceeded to threaten and gang rape the woman. Later in the evening, they released her. They also robbed cash and an ATM card from the man who had accompanied the victim. The accused had threatened to release a video of the woman with the man she was speaking to at the bus station on social media, which left the victim afraid to file a complaint.The accused gang members were initially arrested by the Gokak police in a dacoity case on September 13. During the course of the investigation, they confessed to committing the gang rape. The police are conducting further inquiries into the case.
