Chief Minister Siddaramaiah affirmed his commitment to social justice during the 9th National Convention of Shepherd India International at the District Sports Ground in Nehru Nagar, Belgaum. He emphasized the importance of marginalized communities organizing themselves to assert their constitutional rights. Siddaramaiah stated that he has never engaged in caste-based politics and has always prioritized social justice. He referenced Samajwadi leader Ram Manohar Lohia, who believed that organizing conventions for deprived castes to assert their constitutional rights was justified. Siddaramaiah defended the convention’s purpose, stating that it aligns with this philosophy. He acknowledged that historically marginalized communities have often been denied their rights and political representation due to their lack of organization and leadership development. Siddaramaiah highlighted the rich cultural and political history of these communities and emphasized the importance of organizing to secure their rightful place in society. An equal society can be built only if every community grows economically, socially and politically. Everyone should get their share of power and opportunity. Our critics lack this common sense. Ours is a caste and discriminatory society. Thus there is discrimination in the distribution of opportunities. He said that organization and conventions are necessary to compensate for all these.
