Dr. Kamal Menghrajani, an Indian-American cancer physician, has been selected as one of 15 exceptional young leaders for the 2023-2024 class of White House Fellows. Dr. Menghrajani, who specializes in treating patients with leukemia, will be placed at the Office of Science and Technology Policy. During her one-year tenure, she will collaborate with senior White House staff, Cabinet Secretaries, and other high-ranking administration officials. In response to her appointment, Dr. Menghrajani expressed excitement about being the first oncologist ever selected for this prestigious program. She is enthusiastic about leading, serving, and innovating for patients as part of the Cancer Moonshot and Health Outcomes teams. Dr. Menghrajani’s background includes conducting cancer research focused on early diagnosis and prevention while on the faculty at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. She has also been involved in health equity efforts for vulnerable populations in global settings, including Nicaragua, Bolivia, and Uganda. As an entrepreneur, Dr. Menghrajani has co-founded startups aimed at addressing unmet needs in cancer treatment and deploying AI for rapid cancer diagnosis. Additionally, she has played a role in the growth of the non-profit organization Nourish International, which engages student leaders in international development work as social entrepreneurs. Dr. Menghrajani holds an M.D. from the University of North Carolina and an M.S. in Biostatistics from Columbia University. Her medical training was completed at the University of Michigan, where she also served as chief fellow at MSK. The White House’s announcement described this year’s Fellows as a remarkably gifted, passionate, and accomplished group who underwent a highly competitive selection process.
