As private schools are attracting students from the pre-primary level itself, 20 Government Primary schools in the district are going to face the competition head-on. These primary schools are going to launch LKG this academic year to attract students.
Private schools are ahead in attracting children and providing supplementary education at the pre-primary level. The government has ordered the opening of pre-primary classes in 262 government primary schools in the state. It is suggested that necessary preparations should be made for conducting pre-primary classes on a practical basis in the current academic year itself.
Preparations are being made to conduct pre-primary classes on a trial basis. Pre-primary classes have been started on a pilot to increase enrolment.  Earlier, in 2018, about 284 Karnataka Public Schools were started in the state, in each assembly constituency. This attempt was made to attract children to government schools through English medium education in these public schools. There are 18 KPSs in the district, of which 10 are in Chikodi and 8 in Belagavi educational district.
Basavaraj Nalatwad, Deputy Director of School Education said already pre-primary classes are being conducted in Karnataka Public Schools and students are allowed to learn in English medium. A total 30 children are being enrolled in Karnataka public schools each, which is fully successful. The government has now started an experiment to implement the same model in all government schools, he said.
The School Development and Management Committee (SDMC) of each school where pre-primary classes are yet to come, have been allowed to appoint one person for each school for child maintenance. A maximum enrolment of 30 children has been allowed for pre-primary school, he explained.
