The Calcutta High Court has imposed a fine on a Deputy Secretary of the West Bengal Board of Primary Education (WBBPE) for failing to adhere to and implement a previous court order. The single-judge bench of Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay also expressed dissatisfaction with the Deputy Secretary’s inability to implement the court order within the specified time frame. Justice Gangopadhyay remarked that if a Deputy Secretary cannot implement a court order within three months, he should be removed from his position or face other appropriate actions. The financial penalty imposed on the Deputy Secretary should be paid from his personal funds and not from the board’s funds. The case pertains to errors in six questions on the written examination for the Teachers’ Eligibility Test (TET) for 2014. The court had previously ordered the board to award full marks for these six questions to the candidates. However, one candidate claimed that he had not been granted the additional six marks, resulting in his disqualification. In response to the candidate’s complaint, the court directed the board to re-examine the answer sheet and award the marks to the candidate within a specific time frame. Since the board failed to meet this deadline, the court imposed a financial penalty on the Deputy Secretary responsible for implementing the court order.
