A dish-displaying of insects at the farmers’ fair and Krishi Mela organised by the Agriculture University here has attracted attention. The exhibition showcased the life cycle and diversity of various insects.

15 dishes prepared using various insects are on display. The exhibition is being organised by the Department of Entomology, KVV. Locust, cockroach fry, black soldier fly masala, silk cell soup, burger, paneer tikka, red ant fry are on display. These dishes are already in vogue in China, Thailand and North Korea. The organisers have shared information about adivasi communities in some parts of India consuming red ant fry.These mites also have many nutrients similar to non-vegetarian food. Insects that are loaded with proteins and vitamins are good for health. For this reason, insects are also present in the food consumed by people in China, Thailand and Korea. Even if Indians eat it, it won’t be a problem, said Shivakumar, a PhD student. This innovative exhibition by the research scholars of the Department of Entomology Studies at the Krishi Mela has surprised everyone.
