In welcome news for the people of Bangalore, the lifeline of the city, the Purple Line Metro, is set to see its entire route from Whitefield to Challaghatta become operational, tentatively starting on September 15. The commencement of metro services on this vital stretch is contingent upon the inspection and certification by the Metro Rail Safety Commissioner, expected to occur on Friday. The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) is gearing up to initiate metro operations between KR Puram and Baiyappanahalli, as well as Kengeri and Challaghatta, commencing from September 15. BMRCL’s Managing Director, Anjum Parvez, expressed their anticipation, highlighting the need for approval from the Metro Rail Safety Commissioner for public use. They further emphasized their request for an expedited inspection process, expressing their readiness to commence metro train operations on the Whitefield-Challaghatta route as soon as permission is granted. The Purple Line, a crucial part of Bangalore’s metro network, connects Baiyappanahalli and KR Puram metro stations and extends the metro line from Kengeri to Challaghatta. This expansion is set to bridge the eastern and western parts of the city, enhancing connectivity for countless commuters. Once the entire Purple Line becomes operational, BMRCL expects daily ridership to surge from 75,000 to a whopping 100,000 passengers. In a significant development, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 12.75 km stretch between Whitefield and KR Puram, which is part of the Purple Line, ahead of the assembly elections earlier this year. Currently serving an average of 30,000 commuters on the Whitefield-KR Puram line, this metro extension will be a boon for IT professionals and residents alike. As it is now seamlessly connected to Baiyappanahalli Metro station, the complete Purple Line promises to significantly ease daily commutes for residents of Bangalore.
