The villagers and students of Dodda Kavalande here are appreciating the work done by a Kannada lecturer who created an atmosphere of Malnad in barren land. The Government Pre-University College at Doddakavalande village in Nanjangud taluk is a testimony to the fact that the good atmosphere of the college is also conducive to the progress of the students. The college campus, which was a barren open, has now turned into a botanical garden. With the help of Venkataramana, a Kannada lecturer and NSS officer, and students, Principal Dr. TR Siddaraju and colleagues, the college campus has become green. The space reserved for the development of extra-curricular activities of the students was of no use. Venkataramana decided to green the rest of the space except the playground. He also faced ridicule from his colleagues for this. Venkataramana, however, took up the challenge and   help of students and the guidance of the Principal to convert the college premises into a green zone. A few years of hard work has paid off. The Lecturer, who won the hearts of the students in Kannada lessons, has succeeded in creating a good atmosphere in the college premises. Venkataramana has invested his own money for this work. No financial assistance has been received from the college or donors. They have planted different species of plants on about two acres of land. Seating arrangements have been made for the students to sit and also for the convenience of animals and birds. It’s been almost 6 years of hard work. The college campus, which has turned into a green zone, is now being used by the students for their extra-curricular activities.
