Bandh Against Shifting Of Medical College, Protests In Several Parts

The bandh called on Friday to protest against the shifting of Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) Medical College to Kanakapura has evoked widespread support. The town had come to a complete standstill in the wake of the bandh. The bandh was called in association with various political parties, pro-Kannada organisations. People of the townRamanagara have voluntarily closed their shops and sent a message that they want Rajiv Gandhi Medical College. The traders have closed their shops since early morning on Friday. Tea shops and small hotels have also been shut down and they have cooperated with the bandh.  APMC and Cocoon markets were also suspended their business and extended their support to the bandh. Traders and farmers have voluntarily extended their support to the bandh. While private schools have also declared a holiday, transport traffic has also come to a complete halt and the city’s roads are deserted. Various organisations are staging a protest at Aijur circle in the city against the shifting of the medical college to Kanakapura. Members of the Rajiv Gandhi Medical College Activists’ Committee blocked the Bengaluru-Old Mysore road and staged a protest. KSRTC buses have also been hit by protests. As a result, students are struggling to go to schools and colleges. A human chain was formed at Aijur circle in Ramanagara and the protest was held. The agitated protesters got into an argument with the police for obstructing it. They set tyres on fire. Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) medical college was earlier sanctioned to Ramanagara. However, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar and his brother DK Suresh allegedly shifted the medical college to their native Kanakapura.
