Must read

Sirsi (Uttara Kannada)

The traffic police station sanctioned to the city during the previous BJP regime is yet to be operationalised. Due to this, the traffic congestion in  city limits has increased, causing  inconvenience to the public on a daily basis and the number of minor accidents has also increased.   Faults in the implementation of proper parking system and one-way traffic system within the city limits have led to traffic congestion. The traffic police station was sanctioned in February 2023 with the objective of controlling traffic congestion in the city limits and streamlining traffic. A total of 71 accident cases were registered in Sirsi circle in 2021, of these, 15 were killed and 93 injured. A total of 3184 accident cases were registered between 2015 to 2022.  More than 76 cases have been reported so far this year. At least 10 people were killed and 63 injured. In order to overcome all these problems, traffic police station sanction orders were issued with 2 different grades of posts including 1 PSI, 2 ASI, 8 head constables and 31 personnel. The implementation is yet to be approved in the changed system of government. The problem of vehicular traffic has increased due to the large number of people moving to many places of interest including Marikamba Temple, Horticulture College, various hospitals, many commercial establishments, markets within the city limits. In addition, Police personnel from other stations in the district will be deployed for traffic congestion management during the Marikamba Devi fair, which is held once in two years.
