It has been two months since sowing and the crop is not being harvested due to lack of complete rainfall. Not a single handful of grain comes from the existing crop. Fed up with this situation, farmers are destroying the crops grown in their fields. They are demanding that the District be declared drought-hit. Vinoda, a farmer from Bettageri village had sown eight acres of maize. It has been 70-80 days since sowing. It was supposed to come to the harvesting stage in another month. As the grain is not tied, the farmer is destroying his crop through a tractor as it has dried without water.  A farmer who has spent more than Rs 20,000 per acre is now guaranteed that he will not get a single rupee of income on the land, hence he destroyed the crop. A large number of farmers have already destroyed their crops in Bettageri village of the taluk. The state government should declare the taluk as drought-hit. Elukotesh Komalapura, a farmer from Bettageri, tweeted to the Chief Minister demanding that the taluk be declared drought-hit.
