The Karnataka State Health and Family Welfare Department has taken a significant step in combating the increasing dengue cases, including those in Bangalore, by unveiling a cutting-edge ‘Platform for Research, Integrated Surveillance, and Health Management’ dashboard and mobile application. Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao inaugurated this pivotal tool at the Art Park office of the Indian Institute of Science in collaboration with IISc. The application’s launch couldn’t have come at a more crucial time, as dengue fever’s growing prevalence raises substantial concerns for public health. In India, which carries a significant portion of the global dengue burden, the incidence of dengue has been on the rise in recent seasons, with Karnataka experiencing a surge in cases over the past few months. To address this pressing issue, the Department of Health and Family Welfare, Government of Karnataka (DHFW-GoK), and the Greater Bengaluru Mahanagara Corporation (BBMP) have joined forces to implement technology-based solutions for effective disease management—a strategy previously employed during the Covid-19 pandemic.
