The Congress party has criticized the government after invitations for a G20 dinner on September 9 were addressed to the ‘President of Bharat’ instead of the usual ‘President of India.’ Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh posted on X, expressing concern that even the concept of the ‘Union of States’ is now under assault. He mentioned that Article 1 of the Constitution could read, Bharat, that was India, shall be a Union of States, but this fundamental idea is now being questioned. Ramesh also stated that while Prime Minister Narendra Modi can continue to distort history and divide India, which is Bharat, a Union of States, the Congress party will not be deterred from its objective of promoting harmony, amity, reconciliation, and trust. This criticism comes amidst reports that the government is planning to remove the word India from the Constitution, as part of its efforts to eliminate elements related to a slavery mentality during the ongoing Amrit Kaal campaign.
