Deputy Commissioner Ragunandhan Murthy has said they have a formed a committee, led by Additional Deputy Commissioner Pujar Veeramallappa, to investigate the recent fire accident at a firecracker godown at Aladakatti village. The Deputy Commissioner told media persons that they will initiate action against the owners of the godown. Before that, the committee will verify details on owners, permission, storage, licence and other aspects. We have been inspecting illegal storage and outlets of firecrackers in the district. We have shut 27 outlets of firecrackers which do not have a licence, and issued the notice, he said. We will allow licence holders to open firecracker outlets in open space for the Ganesha festival.  Murthy said he has directed the Tahsildars concerned to verify illegal stone quarries and crushers, mainly with regard to safety measures. The district administration will initiate action against erring owners of quarries. SP Shivakumar Gunare said they have filed an FIR regarding Aladakatti firecracker godown. Meanwhile, Karnataka Rakshana Vedike Swabhimani Sene and DYFI staged a protest seeking prevention of firecracker accidents.
