Agriculture Minister N Chaluvarayaswamy has directed to provide the Ground Truth Verification Report within a month to supplement the declaration of drought in the wake of lack of rain across the state.
He was speaking at a progress review meeting at Vidhana Soudha and suggested that in all the taluks which are facing serious problems, the real report of the crop situation should be collected and submitted as soon as possible.
Due to the drought situation, officials at the district level should  go to the farmers’ fields to observe the situation and give advice, cooperation and confidence-building work.   He told to give clear instructions to the lower level officials. The designated nodal officers visit the districts regularly.  He instructed the senior officials of the department to review the implementation and advise the lower level officials and report to them from time to time about the work undertaken.
In 29 districts of the state, severe rain deficiency occurred in August and has not rained for three consecutive weeks. Sowing could not be done in 194 villages of 4 districts, so the minister instructed to take necessary steps to provide crop insurance of Rs 35 Crore to 35,209 farmers as soon as possible.
The insurance enrollment has been reduced due to late start of insurance registration and due to delay in sowing due to lack of rain, but all registered farmers should get insurance claim. The Minister said that since the use of Nano Urea and Nano DAP is more profitable for the farmers, they should try the crops for one or two years and after seeing the results at the Krishi Vishwa Vidyanila level, take steps to create more awareness about the use of Nano Urea.
