Farmers in Shikaripura, Soraba and Shivamogga rural taluks, which are the largest maize growers, are in tears when they see their crops drying up. The tunga river, which was overflowing due to heavy rains in the district nearly a month ago, has now receded.

The normal normal rainfall for August is 404.86 mm and the average rainfall recorded so far is 82.89 mm.
