Two Arrested For Stealing Bikes, 29 Bikes Seized

The Ankalagi Police in Gokak taluk have arrested two persons for stealing bikes from various parts of Karnataka and Maharashtra. Bikes worth Rs 8.25 lakh were seized from them. The arrested have been identified as Santosh Ramachandra Nishane (30), a resident of Kalambha in Kolhapur taluka of Maharashtra, and Bharamappa Yellappa Koppada (21) of Telaginahatti in Gokak taluk. As many as 29 bikes of various companies have been seized from them.

Cases of theft of two-wheelers have increased in Gokak city and rural areas recently. On August 23, a bike parked in front of the Lakshmi temple in Kundaragi village was also stolen. The owner had lodged a complaint with the Ankalagi police in this regard. The Police, who had tracked down the accused in the case, have arrested the two accused. More cases of bike theft have come to light during the investigation.

During interrogation, the accused revealed that they had stolen bikes from many places in and around Belagavi as well as in neighbouring Maharashtra. 

The menace of bike thieves is rampant in the district and the public should not park their bikes carelessly at night. District Superintendent of Police Dr Sanjeev Patil said that the handle should be locked properly and parked at a safe place.Additional Superintendent of Police  M Venugopal, Gokak Circle Inspector Gopal R Rathod, ASP DH Mulla, Ankalagi PSI HD Yarazharvi, Gokak PSI M.D. Ghori, Gokak Rural PSI Kiran Mohite, Constables BV Nerli, Vittal Nayak, DG Konnura, SV Kasthuri, MB Talawara, SH Devara, SB Chippalakatti were present.
