Villagers in Dharmasthala submitted a memorandum to the Gram Panchayat, Dakshina Kannada SP, Deputy Commissioner, Home Minister and the State Government, seeking action against social activists for allegedly making defamatory remarks against Sri Kshetra Dharmastala Dharmadhikari D Veerendra Heggade.
Villagers Shrinivas Rao Dharmastala, Sandeep Rai, Chaya, Shambhavi Rai, Advocate Keshava Belalu and others addressed a press conference.
They demanded stringent action against those who defamed Heggade, Dharmasthala, Courts, Government, Constitution, Police and CBI. They alleged that social activists were trying to breach the peace and harmony in society, through their defamatory statements.
Dharmasthala is considered as a holy place that has a history of eight centuries as a centre of religious unity that exists for truth and justice. The accused in Sowjanya murder case should be traced and punished stringently. People have been seeking justice in the case, but some are making efforts to spread fake and defamatory news about Dharmasthala through social media and public gatherings, villagers said.We are ready for any sacrifice to protect the sanctity of Dharmasthala, they added.
