A century-old government school in Managundi village, Dharwad, lacks numerous basic facilities and parents of students are worried about it.
The school has a strength of 450 students and has 20 classrooms. Among these, 20 classrooms, 10 are in an inoperable condition, posing threat to students’ lives.  The school management has requested authorities and elected representatives to repair the school, but this has not yielded any results. Education department officials are not visiting the school and have failed to act. According to sources, the school was established in 1917. Earlier, it was a roofed building. Year by year, the school was developed and the strength of the students also gradually increased.

In the last few years, during monsoon season, the walls of the school building developed cracks and the roof has been leaking due to incessant rain. School Development and Management Committee President Ningappa Hadapad told that they have requested District Minister and Deputy Commissioner  to allot new classrooms. We have two sections each for classes 6 and 7. Now, we are conducting combined classes in one classroom. Due to rainfall, one classroom completely collapsed and is in a poor condition. So we have requested to sanction new classrooms to facilitate the education of children, he added.

Rural Block Educational Officer R Sadalagi said, I have inspected the school. Some classrooms are in very bad condition and I told them to conduct classes in other classrooms. A proposal seeking new classrooms has been sent to the DDPI’s office. Soon after approval, the school building will be developed. Mallappa Chitti, a parent, said, we are worried about sending children to school, as some classrooms are in really dangerous condition. He also urged the government to sanction new classrooms soon.
