A statue of Mahatma Gandhi, built 18 years ago, was vandalised by miscreants at Holehonnur town in Bhadravathi taluk of the district late Sunday night. The incident was captured on a CCTV camera at a shop in front of Gandhi Circle last night.
As the news of the vandalisation of the Gandhi statue spread across the town, protests were held near Gandhi Circle, cutting across party lines. They blocked all other vehicles, including buses, on the main road, demanding the arrest of the accused. Holehonnur Police have visited the spot and have made proper security arrangements. Rural MLA Sharada Puryanayake and Superintendent of Police also visited the spot. Police sources said the faces of the accused were not visible properly in the CCTV camera.
