WARSAW
A Ukrainian citizen, identified as Volodymyr Z., has been detained in Poland on a European arrest warrant issued by a German court over suspected involvement in the 2022 Nord Stream explosions, according to Polish broadcaster RMF FM.
The underwater blasts, widely described as sabotage, severely damaged pipelines carrying Russian gas to Europe, disrupting energy supplies and intensifying the Ukraine conflict. While both Moscow and Western nations blamed sabotage, responsibility for the attack has never been claimed. Ukraine has consistently denied any role.
RMF reported that German authorities sought Volodymyr Z. in connection with the case. His detention follows an earlier arrest in August, when Italian police took into custody another Ukrainian national suspected of coordinating the attacks.
As of now, neither German nor Polish prosecutors have commented on the arrest. The case continues to draw global scrutiny amid unresolved questions about accountability.
