The bi-annual flower show at Lal Bagh has captured the hearts of almost four lakh visitors, with the event set to conclude on Tuesday, August 15. Welcoming nature enthusiasts from 7 am to 7 pm, the 214th edition of the flower show commenced on August 4, inaugurated by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. The horticulture department reported ticket sales amounting to Rs. 1.8 crore, signifying the popularity and wide appeal of the flower show. Admission fees for adults stand at Rs. 70, while children can enter for Rs. 30. Students carrying valid identification cards are granted free access to the event. On Sunday, over a lakh individuals, including 20,000 students, flocked to the flower show, immersing themselves in the vibrant displays. Dedicated to the memory of Karnataka’s second Chief Minister, Kengal Hanumanthaiah, this year’s flower show features remarkable highlights, including an 18-foot replica of the Vidhana Soudha and a 14-foot statue of Kengal Hanumanthaiah himself. Amidst the flurry of visitors, renowned Kannada actress Rachita Ram was also present at the event on Monday. However, her visit was marred by an unfortunate incident when her car accidentally struck a cleaning worker at the flower show. The vehicle continued without stopping after the incident, heading towards the vibrant floral displays. The Lal Bagh flower show, held bi-annually during the Republic Day and Independence Day festivities, boasts a rich history spanning over two centuries. Remarkably, it has only been interrupted twice – during World War II and the COVID-19 pandemic. The show serves as a cherished tradition that unites nature enthusiasts, artists, and the general public in a celebration of nature’s beauty and the city’s heritage.
