Minister H.C. Balakrishna on Sunday strongly criticised Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy, accusing him of making allegations against others despite having allegedly ordered phone tapping in the past. Balakrishna said Kumaraswamy had no moral right to question him over the issue.

Balakrishna alleged that Kumaraswamy had tapped the phone of his own wife and those of his personal assistants. He also claimed that the phone of a seer had been tapped on Kumaraswamy’s instructions. “Those who tapped their own family members’ phones are now making allegations against me,” Balakrishna said.

Balakrishna also spoke about the state government’s housing plans and described them as a major development in the housing sector. He said Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar was working on a housing initiative aimed at providing homes to people who do not own houses.

According to Balakrishna, the government has already directed officials to identify around 200 acres of government land in every taluk for the housing programme. The identified land will be used to develop housing facilities for eligible families without homes.

He said the initiative was inspired by the housing programme introduced during the tenure of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The government intends to ensure that people without houses receive suitable housing through the proposed scheme.

Balakrishna also said Ramanagara and Magadi taluks had been declared drought-affected areas. Officials and public representatives have already visited important villages in both taluks to assess the situation and understand the difficulties faced by residents.

He said the government would continue monitoring conditions in the affected areas and take appropriate measures to address the concerns of people facing the impact of drought.
