Exorcism ritual controversy shakes Koppa taluk

CHIKKAMAGALURU

A shocking case of alleged human rights abuse and physical torture has surfaced in Mekanahadlu village, located within the Koppa taluk of Chikkamagaluru district, creating widespread public outrage across the Malnad region.

According to local reports and police sources, a complaint has been officially registered against a local temple figure named Satish Patri at the N.R. Pura police station. The action comes after disturbing video and audio clips went viral on social media platforms, showing a young woman being severely harassed and subjected to bizarre rituals under the pretext of exorcising evil spirits.

The viral footage reportedly captures the accused forcibly intimidating the victim, compelling participants to consume unusual items, and issuing severe threats of physical harm if instructions are ignored. Furthermore, related audio clips featuring abusive language directed at individuals added fuel to the controversy, prompting local villagers and community leaders to demand immediate legal intervention.

In response to the mounting public pressure and the viral clips, Satish Patri appeared before the media to deny all allegations. He claimed that the circulated footage is several years old and that he has suspended his ritual practices for over a year. He alleged that the controversy is part of a deliberate conspiracy orchestrated against him by temple rivals.

Meanwhile, law enforcement authorities have taken cognizance of the complaint and launched a detailed investigation into the matter. Officials have assured the public that proper legal procedures are underway to verify the authenticity of the media clips and determine accountability under applicable laws.
