‘Joint efforts needed for HIV-Free India by 2030’

State AIDS Control Organization Joint Director Dr. Girija Tai called for coordinated efforts to achieve the goal of an HIV-free India by 2030.

She said public cooperation, along with support from health officials and other government departments, would be essential to reach the target.

She was speaking while presiding over a monthly progress review meeting of HIV-related centres in Dakshina Kannada district at the office of the District Health and Family Welfare Officer. Dr. Girija Tai said creating awareness among people should remain a major priority for staff working in HIV prevention and control programmes.

She stressed that the responsibility of achieving the 2030 goal cannot rest with one department alone. According to her, the AIDS Control Organization, Health Department and other departments must work together and ensure that accurate information reaches communities. She urged officials to strengthen coordination and continue awareness activities.

Before the meeting, Dr. Girija Tai and her team reviewed the performance of several health centres in the district. The team visited the Integrated Counselling and Testing Centres at taluk hospitals in Belthangady and Puttur and also inspected the Government Urban Community Health Centre in Ullal.

The team further reviewed services at Wenlock District Hospital’s ICTC and ART Centre and the ICTC and ART facilities at KMC Hospital, Attavar. Officials assessed the progress of the centres and discussed efforts needed to improve services and meet programme targets. Deputy Director Dr. Hanumantha Rayappa, District AIDS Control Officer Dr. Khatija Dil Shad M.P., ICTC and ART Nodal Medical Officer Dr. Subodh Kumar Rai and other officials participated in the review.
