Job card fair brings rural work opportunities across Kodagu

CH NEWS, MADIKERI

A month-long job card fair is being conducted across Kodagu district under the newly introduced Viksit Bharat Guarantee for Employment and Livelihood Mission Grameen-2026 scheme.

Kodagu Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Anand Prakash Meena said the fair would continue until September 15 across all 102 gram panchayats.

Meena urged rural residents to make use of the opportunity to obtain job cards and access employment. He said the new scheme provides opportunities for both community and individual works, including construction of personal wells, cattle sheds and poultry sheds. A total of 318 types of works are available under the programme.

Under the earlier rural employment scheme, families could receive up to 100 days of employment in a financial year. The new programme increases this limit to 125 days. Gram panchayats have already prepared action plans according to the guidelines, and the plans have been approved. Work has also begun in several parts of the district.

Meena said a daily wage of ₹382 has been fixed for rural workers under the scheme. Those seeking employment can submit a request using Form-6, after which the concerned gram panchayat must provide work within 15 days. He advised eligible residents to contact their local gram panchayat office for job cards, employment requests and other information.

To ensure the campaign runs smoothly, district-level officers have been appointed as nodal officers for the five taluks. As part of the drive, a job card fair and door-to-door awareness programme was held at Thorenur Gram Panchayat in Kushalnagar taluk. Farmers were informed about the individual and community works available under the scheme.
