Health camp held for labourers at Challari Lake

KOPPAL

A health check-up camp was held for labourers working on lake revitalisation at Challari village under Chikkabommanal Gram Panchayat in Koppal taluk on Wednesday.

Taluk Panchayat Assistant Director K. Soumya urged workers to register for insurance schemes while taking up wage employment.

Speaking at the camp, Soumya said the VB-G RAM G scheme aims to reduce migration from rural areas by providing up to 125 days of local wage work to every eligible family. The scheme offers equal wages to men and women and focuses on water conservation, irrigation, groundwater recharge, watershed development and restoration of water bodies.

She said the current wage has been fixed at Rs. 382 per person per day, with payment linked to the amount of work completed. Soumya urged labourers to understand the work measurements and make full use of employment opportunities available under the scheme.

Taluk IEC Coordinator Devaraj Pattara said families can also take up individual works such as cattle sheds, goat sheds, agricultural wells, dams and poultry sheds through the programme. He encouraged eligible families to complete the available 125 days of work and strengthen their income. Landless families can earn through collective works undertaken by Gram Panchayats, he added.

Pattara said newly registered families would receive guarantee cards. He also encouraged workers to use government welfare and insurance schemes to improve their financial security.

Panchayat Development Officer Andigallappa, Gram Panchayat Secretary Gavisiddaya, health department staff, DEO Hulagappa, villagers and workers attended the camp. Village-level workers and community representatives also participated. The health programme provided workers with an opportunity to receive medical attention while learning about employment, insurance and welfare benefits available through government schemes.
