Life becomes meaningful when people develop humanitarian values along with a spirit of service and generosity, said Sanjeev Kumar Neeralgi, District Honorary Working President of the Indian Red Cross Society.
He was speaking at a Geneva Convention Day programme held at SGSLP Government First Grade Women’s College in Neelanagoudra Nagar.
The programme was organised jointly by the district administration, Zilla Panchayat, Indian Red Cross Society district and state branches, and the college’s Youth Red Cross Unit. Neeralgi urged students and young people to develop an interest in social welfare and contribute to society. He said the Red Cross works worldwide to promote peace and humanitarian service, while the Geneva Convention highlights the importance of protecting human values and supporting world peace.
Neeralgi encouraged students to develop leadership, compassion and a willingness to help others. He also said efforts were being made to secure greater government support for developing government schools and colleges in the district. He urged students to aim for success in different fields while remaining committed to social responsibility.
Red Cross district officer and writer Hanumantha Gowda Gollara explained the purpose of the Geneva Convention and said the organisation works with humanity as its guiding principle. Students also spoke about the importance of humility, cooperation and helping others alongside education.
College Principal Prof. Indira Bagalkote said learning should go together with social service and humanitarian activities. YRC Programme Officer Veeresh Hitalamani introduced the event, while Dr. Ankit Anand explained the activities of the Youth Red Cross Unit. Several Red Cross office-bearers, college lecturers, officials, staff members and students attended the programme and supported its message of service, compassion and peace.
