KALABURAGI
District Collector Ikram Sharif has directed officials to take strict measures to reduce road accidents and improve traffic safety across Kalaburagi district.
Speaking at the District Road Safety Committee meeting, he said road safety must receive top priority and warned that negligence in implementing safety measures would invite legal action against responsible officials and contractors.
The Collector ordered strict checks on overloaded trucks carrying material from mines and quarries in Chittapur, Sedam, Wadi and Jewargi areas. CCTV cameras must be installed at mine and quarry entry and exit points within 15 days, with live links provided to transport and police officials. Violating vehicles should be seized and FIRs registered, while serious violations could lead to quarry licence cancellation.
Officials were also told to effectively use speed detection guns and CCTV cameras on highways. Transport and police departments should jointly check speed governors on buses, lorries and cement factory vehicles. The Public Works Department and National Highways Authority of India were asked to identify locations for truck terminals in Sedam, Chittapur and Sirsagi to reduce roadside parking.
The Collector also ordered installation of digital weighbridges and strict enforcement of the ban on heavy vehicles entering city limits between 7 am and 10 pm. He directed officials to seek central approval to bring the Humnabad Cross-Afzalpur Cross road under National Highway authority jurisdiction.
A district-wide road safety audit must be completed within 30 days, with accident black spots identified and corrected. Unsafe speed bumps should be removed, while reflectors and warning signs must be installed. Sharif said the administration’s main goal was saving lives and warned that deliberate delays or poor roadwork could result in FIRs and legal action.
