Deputy Commissioner Dr. Kumar inspected several solid waste management facilities in Maddur and Mandya on Wednesday, reviewing waste collection, treatment, recycling and disposal under the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026 and Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban)-2.0.
At Hutagere and Shivapura in Maddur taluk, Kumar examined traditional waste disposal work and the functioning of solid waste management units. Officials explained the treatment of collected waste, separation of recyclable materials and scientific disposal of the remaining waste. He directed officials to ensure waste segregation at source, proper collection, recycling and safe disposal while maintaining environmental and public health standards.
At Kalenahalli village, Kumar inspected waste collection and processing activities. He ordered officials to complete biomining and bioremediation of remaining waste within the stipulated period and dispose of treated material scientifically. Waste left after processing should be placed in sanitary landfills, while leachate and groundwater quality must be monitored regularly. He also directed separate collection of wet and dry waste during door-to-door services and checks on borewell water, fruits, vegetables and grass grown at the facility.
During a surprise visit to the 3R waste management unit at Kuvempunagar, Mandya, he reviewed work based on reducing, reusing and recycling waste. He instructed officials to reduce waste generation, promote reuse and properly process recyclable materials.
He also called for effective implementation of the rules and measures to control stray dogs, including sterilisation and anti-rabies vaccination. Officials were told to submit progress details through the district Swachhtam portal and work towards making Mandya cleaner, safer and environmentally sustainable.

Deputy Commissioner inspects girls’ hostel in Maddur
The Deputy Commissioner made a surprise visit to the BCM Girls’ Hostel in Maddur and inspected facilities provided to students. He checked food quality, drinking water, cleanliness, toilets, bathrooms, sanitary pads, healthcare, accommodation, electricity, safety, library and reading facilities. He also spoke with students about their problems and needs. Officials were instructed to provide nutritious food, maintain hygiene, ensure enough sanitary pads and create a better study environment. The Deputy Commissioner had lunch with students and checked the food quality directly. He also ordered regular monitoring, with special attention to student safety, health and education.
