Inquiry ordered in Akkamahadevi University fee misappropriation

Vijayapura

A committee has been constituted to investigate serious allegations of fee misappropriation at Karnataka State Akkamahadevi Women’s University in Vijayapura, where lakhs of rupees collected from students during admissions were allegedly not deposited into the university’s official accounts.

The suspected irregularities relate to admission fees collected from undergraduate and postgraduate students during the academic years 2023–24, 2024–25, and 2025–26. Officials believe that a clerk and some staff members may have been involved in diverting the collected funds instead of transferring them to the university bank account.

The university uses the state government’s Unified University and College Management System (UUCMS), which allows students to make online fee payments. However, it is alleged that some students and parents who faced difficulties with the online process were encouraged to make offline payments, allegedly with assurances of assistance from staff members.

According to sources, these offline payments were not properly deposited into the university account. In an attempt to cover up the alleged misappropriation, duplicate copies of online payment receipts belonging to other students were reportedly issued. In some cases, these receipts were allegedly uploaded to the student portal, allowing admissions to proceed without detection.

The issue came to light during a routine review of admission and fee records, prompting the university administration to order a formal inquiry. University Syndicate member Mallamma Yalawar has called for a high-level investigation and strict action against those responsible, stating that financial irregularities must be dealt with firmly under the law.

The allegations are particularly concerning as the university is already facing financial constraints and depends heavily on fee collections for its operations. Officials noted that any diversion of funds could further strain its financial stability.

The inquiry committee will examine admission records, payment data, and bank transactions to determine the extent of the alleged fraud and identify those involved. University authorities have assured that appropriate action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
