Raichur leaders miss cabinet berth, hope remains

Intro

Raichur district has missed cabinet representation in the first phase, disappointing Congress leaders who now await expansion hopes.

Raichur district has missed out on ministerial representation in the first phase of the cabinet formation led by Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar, leaving Congress leaders and workers disappointed. Despite expectations that at least one legislator from the district would be inducted, the final list did not include any representative from Raichur.

The development has sparked discussion within political circles, with party members pointing to internal differences and a lack of coordinated lobbying as possible reasons for the exclusion. Even though the Congress secured four of the seven Assembly seats in the district, it failed to translate electoral strength into cabinet representation.

Among the key contenders were MLC and KPCC Working President Vasanth Kumar, who was considered under the Scheduled Caste quota, and Sindhanur MLA Hampanagouda Badarli, seen as a potential candidate under the Lingayat quota. However, neither found a place in the first list of ministers.

Other aspirants include Maski MLA Basanagouda Turvihal and Raichur Rural MLA Daddal Basanagouda, who are still hopeful of being included in the upcoming cabinet expansion.

Political observers note that caste balance, seniority, and internal factionalism within the district Congress unit may have influenced the decision. Leaders also acknowledge that a stronger, unified representation effort at the state and national levels could have improved the district’s chances.

Earlier, the district had representation through MLC N. S. Boseraju, who served in the previous government, though he was not appointed district in-charge minister, a decision that had drawn criticism locally.

Congress leaders, including KPCC spokesperson Razak Ustad and District Congress Committee President Basavaraj Patil Itagi, have expressed confidence that Raichur will be accommodated in the next phase of cabinet expansion, stressing the need for representation to strengthen the party in the region.
