Sports fever is set to grip Kanakagiri this week as part of the grand Kanakagiri Festival-2026. The Youth Empowerment and Sports Department has organized high-energy tournaments in wrestling, kabaddi, and volleyball. These events, featuring both men and women athletes, will take place on May 14 and 15, promising thrilling action for local sports fans.
The excitement begins on May 14 at 3 pm with wrestling matches at the K.P.S. School ground. The competition features a star-studded lineup, including Iranian freestyle wrestler Akhmat Pradella and National Champion Basavaraj Patil. Their presence is expected to draw a massive crowd, highlighting the international and national prestige of this year’s local festival celebrations.
The action continues into May 15 with kabaddi and volleyball tournaments starting at 6 pm. Fans of the Pro-Kabaddi League are in for a treat, as players from famous teams like the Bangalore Bulls and U.P. Yoddha will be competing on the mat. Meanwhile, the volleyball court will host national-level players, ensuring a high standard of play throughout the evening.
Dedicated supervisors have been appointed for each sport to ensure fair play and smooth organization. For wrestling, Vishwanath and Hanumantha will lead the team, while Sharanu Gadagolli and Rohini Parvatikar manage the kabaddi matches. Raju Javali and Suresh are overseeing the volleyball events. This festival not only showcases professional talent but also inspires local youth to pursue excellence in sports while bringing the entire community together in celebration.
