Around 18,000 to 20,000 supporters from Vijayapura district are expected to attend the felicitation programme of former Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa in Chitradurga on May 9, according to former MLA P Rajeev.

Addressing a press conference, Rajeev described Yediyurappa as a mass leader who fought for public causes and delivered on promises after coming to power. He said the event has been organised to honour his long-standing political contributions and leadership.

He added that beneficiaries of various government schemes, including Bhagyalakshmi, student bicycle distribution programmes, religious leaders, party workers, and long-time supporters are expected to participate in large numbers.

Rajeev also said that senior leaders, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, are likely to attend the event. Arrangements are being made to accommodate a massive gathering, with facilities such as food distribution and shaded seating planned due to the summer heat.

Former MLA A S Patil Nadahalli said Yediyurappa played a key role in building the BJP organisation from the grassroots level and remains respected across communities. He described the felicitation as a major event for party workers.

Leaders also highlighted Yediyurappa’s contributions to Vijayapura district, including irrigation projects, lake development initiatives, and administrative approvals for lift irrigation schemes. They claimed no other Chief Minister had contributed as extensively to the region.

Other leaders recalled his long political struggles and organisational work, noting his efforts in strengthening the party at the district and state level over several decades.

The press conference was attended by several former ministers and party leaders from the district.
