With rising temperatures affecting the region, authorities in Mandya district have directed contractors and employers to ensure rest for construction workers from 1 pm to 3 pm at all work sites. Officials said the decision is aimed at protecting workers’ health during the ongoing heat conditions. Contractors have also been instructed to provide clean drinking water, toilet facilities, and regular health check-ups for labourers. The Labour Department warned that employers will be held responsible if any health-related incidents occur due to negligence. District Sub-Divisional Labour Officer Dr M Savita said strict implementation of the safety measures is mandatory across all construction sites in the district.
