An awareness programme on voter rights and electoral issues will be held in Koppal on May 2 at Sahitya Bhavan, organisers announced during a press conference in the city.
Programme organiser T. Ratnakar said the event is being conducted by the May Sahitya Mela Balag with the aim of creating awareness among people about concerns related to the SIR voter revision process. The programme is scheduled to begin at 3:30 pm on Saturday.
He said the conference will focus on issues affecting voting rights, especially among backward communities, and will include discussions and lectures by activists and thinkers. Senior activist Chintaka Shivsunder will deliver a special lecture, while noted literary figure Chintaka Kom Veerabhadrappa will preside over the programme.
Ratnakar expressed concern that certain sections of society, including Dalits, tribal communities and minorities, may face challenges in voter list inclusion. He said the programme aims to inform people about their rights and encourage them to stay aware and participate actively in the democratic process.
Several leaders and activists attended the press conference, including Dalit leader Sukhraj Talikeri, SA Gafar, Foster Association District President Chennabasappa Apannavar, Welfare Party Women’s Unit State President Sabiya Patel and Bhimappa Havale.
Organisers said the event will serve as a platform for discussion and awareness, helping citizens understand the importance of voting rights and ensuring their names remain in electoral rolls.
They invited the public, especially youth and first-time voters, to attend the programme and gain awareness about electoral processes, rights and responsibilities in a democratic system, stressing that informed participation is essential for strengthening democracy and ensuring fair representation.
