Heavy rain accompanied by hailstorms destroyed a three-acre banana plantation in Hakkinalu village of Nelamangala taluk on Wednesday, leaving a farmer’s family devastated. Farmer Krishnappa’s plantation of nearly 3,000 banana trees was completely uprooted just before harvest. According to family members, the crop had been cultivated after pawning gold ornaments, including his wife’s wedding ring, to raise funds. The farmer reportedly spent around Rs 8 to 10 lakh on cultivation and was expecting returns of nearly Rs 40 to 45 lakh this season. Following the massive loss, Krishnappa’s family has appealed to the government for immediate compensation and relief assistance.
