A special tribute programme to honour journalists will be held in Gadag on May 3 to mark World Press Freedom Day, recognising their role in strengthening democracy and society.
Organised by Darideepa Women’s Multi-Purpose Organization, the event aims to appreciate journalists as voices of truth and agents of social change. Organisers said journalism is not just about sharing information but also about guiding society and exposing issues that need correction.
Organization President Shakuntala R. Drukunda said journalists work in challenging conditions to bring out facts and their efforts deserve respect. She added that honouring them is a way to recognise their dedication and contribution to society.
The programme will be held at Sri Guru Satchidananda Mutt in Gadag and will bring together journalists from various media platforms across the district. Several senior journalists including Raju Hebballi, H.M. Sharifanavar, Satish Bellakki, Shivakumar Kusthagi, Anandaiah Viraktamath, Shivananda Hiremath, Salim Balabatti, Jagadish Pujar, Ramesh Bhajantri, Suyamindra Kulkarni, Devappa N Lingadalli and Shaukat Kataraki will be honoured.
Organisers said the event reflects the strong bond between society and media and highlights the importance of press freedom in a democratic system. They stressed that supporting honest journalism is essential for social progress and awareness.
Members of the organisation including Vice President Jyoti B. Desai Gowda, Secretary Ramya N. Gavadi and others are working to make the programme successful.
The organisers have invited citizens to attend the event and show support to journalists, stating that recognising their efforts will encourage responsible reporting and help maintain transparency, accountability and public trust in society through free and fair media practices.
