Woman booked for allegedly trying to torch brother’s house over property dispute

BENGALURU

A long-standing property dispute between siblings allegedly turned violent after a woman and her family vandalised her brother’s house and threatened to set it on fire in Byrasandra, south Bengaluru.

According to police, S Ashwini (35), a resident of 9th Cross, filed a complaint stating that she lives with her husband Umesh and their children on the ground floor of a four-storey building owned by the family.

Ashwini said the property originally belonged to Umesh’s father and was later transferred to Umesh, who subsequently constructed additional floors on the building. However, a civil dispute regarding ownership is currently pending in court between Umesh and his elder sister Meenakshi.

Police said Meenakshi, accompanied by her husband and children, allegedly entered the premises and vandalised the house by damaging doors, windows and CCTV cameras.

In her complaint, Ashwini alleged that Meenakshi abused family members using foul language and issued threats during the confrontation.

She further claimed that her sister-in-law poured petrol around the house and threatened to set the building ablaze.

After the situation escalated, Ashwini contacted the police helpline 112. Hoysala police personnel rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.

A police officer said the family has been involved in frequent disputes over the property matter. Investigators are also examining CCTV footage recorded before the cameras were damaged. Further inquiry is underway.
