Yash defends bold scenes in action movie

LAS VEGAS

Kannada superstar Yash has finally broken his silence regarding the heated controversy surrounding his upcoming film, Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups. Speaking at CinemaCon, the actor defended the film’s bold and sensual content, which has recently faced heavy criticism from the public and religious groups. Yash credited director Geetu Mohandas for bringing a unique “female gaze” to a genre usually dominated by men.

The backlash intensified following a promotional video titled Introducing Raya, which featured a graphic scene set in a cemetery. While some fans praised the cinematography, others found the imagery offensive, leading the National Christian Federation to file a formal complaint. In response, Yash explained that Geetu presents romance and desire in a way that is “refreshing and new” for Indian action cinema, focusing on a woman’s perspective of sensuality.

Yash shared that working with Geetu has been a learning experience, noting that her portrayal of emotion and “desire quotient” differs significantly from male directors. He praised her clear vision and writing, urging audiences to see the artistry behind the provocativeness. Geetu herself recently posted a cryptic message online, suggesting the scenes explore deeper themes like female pleasure and consent.

Originally set for a March release, Toxic was delayed due to international conflicts and is now scheduled to hit theaters on June 4. Despite the legal hurdles and online debates, the film remains one of the year’s most anticipated releases, promising a gritty gangster tale told through a lens never before seen in the industry
