BJP Confident of Big Lead in First Phase of West Bengal Polls

Intro
The Bharatiya Janata Party has expressed strong confidence in securing a commanding lead in the first phase of the West Bengal Assembly elections, with Union Home Minister Amit Shah projecting a decisive victory.

Senior leader Amit Shah on Friday stated that the Bharatiya Janata Party is likely to win at least 110 out of the 152 constituencies that went to polls in the first phase held on April 23. He said the estimate was based on an extensive overnight analysis conducted by party leaders and strategists following the conclusion of voting.

Addressing media persons, Shah asserted that the party is on track to form the next government in West Bengal with a clear majority. He thanked voters for their participation and described the electoral process as a shift from fear to hope, suggesting that public sentiment is favoring change.

He also acknowledged the role of security personnel, election officials, and the state police in ensuring a peaceful voting process. According to Shah, the absence of election-related fatalities in the first phase marked a significant improvement compared to past elections in the state.

In a pointed political remark, Shah indicated that the next Chief Minister of West Bengal would be a local leader deeply rooted in the state’s culture and language. Referring indirectly to incumbent Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, he said her successor would be a true Bengali, educated in the Bengali medium and closely connected to the people of the state.

Looking ahead to the second phase of polling scheduled for April 29, Shah said the BJP is targeting victory in at least 77 constituencies out of the 142 going to vote. He acknowledged that the overall contest remains challenging but expressed confidence in the party’s growing support base across the state.

The BJP does not make the government; the people choose it, Shah said, adding that he sees a strong wave of support building in favor of his party. As the multi-phase election continues, political observers are closely watching whether these projections translate into actual electoral gains.
