35 peacocks die amid searing heat

BENGALURU

At least 35 peacocks have died in Tumakuru district amid intense heat wave conditions, raising concerns among forest and veterinary authorities. The deaths were reported from Bommanahalli and Machenahalli areas, spread across 500 metres to 1 km, suggesting a wider environmental impact. Veterinary teams have conducted postmortems and sent samples for laboratory analysis, with results expected within 48 hours. Preliminary findings indicate lung damage, while bodies remained largely intact. Officials suspect heat stress and dehydration as primary causes but have not ruled out bird flu. Water samples have also been collected, and affected sites sealed as a precaution.
