JAIPUR
The desert state of Rajasthan is proving that its scorching sun is a massive gift for homeowners.
New data shows Rajasthan has officially become India’s third-largest state for rooftop solar power, as thousands of families ditch traditional power grids for the sky.
The shift is happening at a blistering pace. Every single day, nearly 700 new households and businesses are installing solar panels on their roofs. For many, the motivation is simple, the dream of never paying an electricity bill again. So far, over 143,000 residents have successfully brought their monthly power costs down to zero, providing much-needed financial relief for middle-class families.
According to the state energy department, there are now more than 245,000 solar units soaking up rays across homes, shops, and factories. This brings the state’s total rooftop capacity to a staggering 2,090 megawatts. While Rajasthan is celebrated for its progress, it still trails behind Gujarat, which leads the nation with 6,882 megawatts, and Maharashtra, which holds second place.
Officials say the “solar revolution” in Jaipur and beyond is transforming how people think about energy. It isn’t just about big industrial plants anymore, it’s about regular citizens taking control of their own utilities. As more people see their neighbors saving money and helping the planet, the momentum continues to grow. With plenty of sunshine and rising enthusiasm, Rajasthan is well on its way to becoming a true national leader in clean, affordable energy for everyone.
