Prioritising Kannada Necessary, Says Minister Sharan Prakash Patil

Bidar

Karnataka Medical Education Minister Sharan Prakash Patil defended the state government’s language policy, saying prioritizing Kannada is both appropriate and necessary.

Responding to BJP criticism that the policy could create challenges for students in other states, he clarified that learning other languages is allowed. “Kannada organizations have welcomed the decision. As Kannadigas, we must take pride in our language. While other languages can be learned, priority should be given to Kannada,” Patil said.

On LPG supply issues, he acknowledged delays, particularly in Kalaburagi, where residents have not received cylinders even 15 days after booking. He noted that this problem may be widespread and linked to global supply conditions.

Addressing the political scenario, Patil said there are no major concerns. He noted some leaders are on election duty in other states, including Minister Zameer Ahmed Khan in Kerala. Patil expressed confidence in winning both seats, despite BJP state president B. Y. Vijayendra’s statements.

Highlighting education sector developments, he said a new director has been appointed at Bidar Bridge College and infrastructure improvements are underway with government support.

He also announced plans to establish a cath lab in partnership with Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research, which is expected to improve cardiac care facilities in the region.

Patil emphasized the government’s focus on both cultural pride and healthcare development to benefit Bidar residents.
