Indian gas ships brave tense sea route

Intro: Two Indian ships carrying crucial LPG navigate the Strait of Hormuz, ensuring household fuel supplies amid regional tensions.

NEW DELHI
Two Indian ships carrying vital cooking gas are currently navigating the risky Strait of Hormuz, bringing much-needed hope to millions of households back home.

The vessels, named Jag Vasant and Pine Gas, began their journey from the UAE coast after receiving special approval to pass through the heavily guarded waterway.
For weeks, India has faced growing concerns over fuel shortages due to rising regional conflicts.

Following recent military strikes in February, Iran restricted most travel through the Strait, which is a global chokepoint for oil and gas. However, after successful high-level negotiations, India became one of the few nations allowed to move its cargo through these sensitive waters.
To stay safe, the ships are sailing close to Iran’s Qeshm and Larak islands, clearly signaling their Indian ownership to avoid any misunderstandings. This specific path is considered safer than the usual routes near Oman, where other vessels have recently faced attacks. The entire journey through the narrow strait typically takes about 14 hours, and both ships are expected to reach the calmer Gulf of Oman.
These two ships had been stranded since late February, unable to deliver their heavy loads of LPG from Kuwait and the UAE. Their successful movement follows two other Indian tankers that made it home safely earlier this month. This careful diplomatic balancing act ensures that kitchens across India stay running, proving that even in times of global tension, vital supplies can still find a way through.
